Bats are what we get called about in Salem, and the older housing stock is the reason. Slate roofs, gaps at the eaves and old chimneys give them an entry point that has usually been there for years before anyone notices.
The important thing with bats is timing and the law. They are protected in New Jersey, there are periods when removal is not permitted, and any company that offers to just seal the hole in June is creating a much bigger problem. We do the exclusion properly, and if there is droppings in an attic we will talk to you about clean-up as well, because that is a health question, not a cosmetic one.
How do I know if it is bats or mice in my attic?
Droppings are the giveaway and they look different. Bats also tend to leave staining at the entry point around dusk. Send us a photo and we will tell you what we think it is.
Can you just seal the hole?
Not on its own. Sealing bats in traps them inside and makes the problem worse and the clean-up bigger. The exclusion has to be done so they can leave and not return.
